Uzbekistan Updates Rules for Patent Attorneys

The government has abolished mandatory certification for patent attorneys, introduced a state register, and limited their powers to the fields specified in their certificates.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan has adopted Resolution No. 542 of 7 October 2026 on improving the institution of patent attorneys. The resolution entered into force on 8 October.

Mandatory certification has been abolished. Instead, patent attorneys will be required to complete professional development training every three years. They may represent clients only in the fields specified in their certificates.

A State Register of Patent Attorneys is being introduced, and its data will be publicly available on the “Intellectual Property Protection” portal. Existing certificates will be reissued by 1 November 2026 without certification and free of state duty.
