Accelerated Examination and Lower Fees: IP Law Amendments Take Effect
Law No. LRU-1144 has revised patent fees, introduced accelerated examination, and shortened the period after which an unused trademark may be cancelled.
On 8 August 2026, a number of amendments introduced by Law No. LRU-1144 of 7 May 2026 entered into force.
Fees for extending deadlines to respond to examination requests concerning inventions, utility models and industrial designs are expected to fall significantly. An accelerated examination procedure has been introduced, and applications are now filed through state information systems.
Trademark protection rules have also changed. Registration of an unused trademark may now be cancelled after three years instead of five. Concluding a licence agreement no longer automatically counts as actual use of a trademark.
