Patent Examination Decisions May Soon Be Appealed Directly in Court

The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis has approved in first reading a bill to strengthen the legal protection of intellectual property.

On 13 October 2026, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis approved in first reading a bill on improving the legal protection of intellectual property.

Applicants who disagree with a state examination decision will be able to go directly to court. The right to file a complaint with the Appeals Council will remain in place. The bill also clarifies how property rights are allocated for service works, meaning works created by an employee on assignment from the employer.

The bill must still pass further readings and review by the Senate.
